Next up is Eddyville, Iowa, a nice 1/8-mile strip just northwest
of Ottumwa, Iowa. Several DRO staffers have past history with
Eddyville, which is now under new management. The new management
jumped into the Outlaw scene with both feet, scheduling five
pretty ambitious events, which feature Outlaw action in five
different eliminators. Those five are: Pro Outlaw, Outlaw
Pro Street, Outlaw 10.5, Limited 10.5, and Drag Radials. To
enhance the Outlaw ambiance, Eddyville will also have Eddy's
Outlaw Girls on hand, and will be offering a line of Outlaw
apparel. With apologies offered in advance to my Significant
Other, sounds like a good time. I think I'll check it out.

The fourth Outlaw series will take place at Ozark International
Raceway. Three hours south of Kansas City, Ozark has had an
interesting history. Once an AHRA national event host track,
it now does business as a 1/8 mile site, mostly hosting bracket
races, and an Outlaw show or two. In 2005 they have slated
five Outlaw slammer shows, none of which are date conflicts
with the other three tours. If you haven't been to Ozark,
you should probably go and see it. It's a quirky little place,
and if you take a tour of the actual grounds, you may find
it hard to believe they used to race Top Fuel and Nitro Funny
Cars there. Don Garlits, Tom McEwen, Gene Snow - ask them
about Ozark the next time you see them. The stories they will
tell you -- my my my!
There is other match race action taking place, at many other
Midwest drag strips. And as I find out about scheduled events,
I'll let you know about them. Any track/racer/fan/well-intentioned
in-law that has info needs to send me an e-mail. Send it to
the e-mail address at the end of this piece, or to my personal
e-mail, racer4339@aol.com.
And promoters, you might consider buying an ad to let the
world know the details (and maybe attract a few racers and
paying spectators). Drag Racing Online has a proven track
record of successful promotional activity, which will help
your bottom line. Believe it!
Later!
(DRO note: Lenny wrote the above paragraph all on his
own, without us telling him to. Honest. But please feel free
to buy ad space.)
