4000 BUMP IN PRO EXTREME!!!!!

Just one measly thousandths of a second was all that kept the Pro Extreme field at Drag Stock II from being and all three-second affair. Rodney Rosenstiel and his Opel GT sit on the bump with a time of 4.000.

Going into the final round of qualifying we had four cars in the three-second zone in short order John Lynam went from being the 14th qualifier with a 4.035 to setting Low ET of the meet so far with a stunning 3.936/185.46 lap. Tommy Mauney and Herman Sheppard both turned in three-second performances to put seven of the eight qualifiers into the threes.

Among those who are on the outside looking in include Eddie Ware who improved to a 4.001 and Michael Neal who couldn’t improve on his previous 4.001. Todd Blaunecht’s 4.004, Chip King’s 4.009 and Thomas Patterson’s 4.010 just weren’t good enough to make what is easily the quickest eighth-mile, doorslammer field in drag racing history.

The bump were the field to be 16 cars was an unbelievable 4.046 which was turned in by Joey Martin. A couple of other notable non-qualifiers include Toney Russell’s hemified Nomad wagon that ran a career best 4,047 as did Doug Palmer’s AMS ‘Vette.

CRITCHLY CRASHES DURING QUALIFYING! NOT INJURED

AMS driver Troy Critchley wheeling the AMS Staff Leasing ’41 Willys crashed hard into the water barrels and retaining wall just past the finish line on his last qualifying attempt. He ran 4.096/174.21 with a .989 sixty-foot time. According to and EMT that DRO talked with, the water barrels that line the walls at the Top End of the track did their job and Critchley didn’t even have a bruise from his harnesses. The same unfortunately can’t be said for the AMS Willys, which according to reports was fairly seriously damaged. The team is supposed to race next weekend at Dallas which is the next stop for the AMS /TLR Pro Mods. (Roger Richards phto)
