Fish Evans

FRIDAY NIGHT,WIFE
OUTTA TOWN
NOT MUCH TO DO
JUST SITTIN AROUND
DOG'S ARE SLEEPIN
I'M IN THE DEN
WATCHIN T.V.CLOCK
STRIKIN TEN
SO I WALKED TO
THE CLOSET OPENED THE DOOR
LOOKED DOWN WAS
A BOX SITIN THERE ON THE FLOORI
I STOOPED OVER
AND LOOKED IN IT TO SEE
AND THERE WAS
A BUNCH OF OLD TAPES OF MINE FROM DIAMOND P
SO I PICKED THE
BOX UP,TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEN
PUT A TAPE IN
THE PLAYER ,SUDDENLY IT WAS 1980 AGAIN
HERE COME'STHE
MUSIC THAT STARTED THE SHOW
AND YOU KNEW IN
A MINUTE EVANS WOULD SAY HELLO
HE'D TELL YOU
THEWHERE THE RACE WAS ,THE CLIMATE AND SUCH
AND YOU COULD
ASK HIM A QUESTION ABOUT THE MOTOR AND CLUTCH
HE WAS RESPECTED
BY THE RACERS ,HE COULD RELATE TO THE FAN'S
IN MOTORSPORT'S
REPORTING HE WAS THE MAN
SO AS I WATCHED
THE CAR'S AND HISTORY ROLE BY
I STARTED TO FEEL
A TEAR IN MY EYE
CAUSE THERE WERE
OLD FRIEND'S THAT WERE NO LONGER HERE
AND MADE ME FEEL
SAD FOR THE GOOD FOLK'S WE'VE LOST OVER THE
YEAR'S
BUT THAT'S NOT
WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT
IT WAS EVAN'S
REPORTIN WHILE IN THE BACKGROUND A FUNNY CAR
WAS DOIN A BURN-OUT
PAINT THAT PICTUREOF
A RACE AS ONLY HE COULD
BUT SADLY THOSE
PICTURE'S ARE GONE FOR GOOD
BUT IT'S BEEN
3 YEAR'S SINCE EVANS IS GONE
BUT I'LL NEVER
FORGET THE TRIBUTE TO EVAN'S FORCE PUT ON
OUTSIDE THAT NIGHT
AT THE MEMORIAL TENT
TWO FUNNY CAR'S
IDLINING,AND THE NITRO THEY SPENT
FOGGED OVER THE
ROOF INTO THE NIGHT AIR IT WENT
BUT IF YOU COULD
ASK FVAN'S THE TRIBUTE,WHAT DID YOU THINK OF
THAT ?
HE'D PROABLY SAY
FIND SEVEN MORE PAIR'S AND HE'D FIND A TRACK
WELL THETAPE STOPPED
DIAMOND-P'S OFF THE AIR
BUT I'LL BET EVAN'S
IS WALKIN AROUND REPORTIN SOMEWHERE
IT SURE WOULD
BE COOL IF EVAN'S WAS BACK
CAUSE WE SURE
MISS HIM AT THE END OF THE TRACK
