"We have the same bike we won with last
year, but now we have much more information
to work with as we tune the bike. Hopefully
we can match some of that success this year"
-- Treble on his own
goals for this year’s version
“When we got here this weekend, it was
a big surprise to me that they weren't going
to let us qualify today. Maybe tomorrow will
be a better day. We served our time today.
We've learned from it. Now, we'll move on." --
Ellis on being informed by NHRA’s Competition
Department that he couldn’t participate
in Friday’s qualifying sessions because
his team had taken part the previous weekend
in an AHDRA motorcycle event at the Las Vegas
venue. NHRA rules state that a contestant at
an NHRA national cannot test/run on the same
track at which the national event is being
held within seven days of the event
"We ran a 7.260 and 7.281 Saturday and
all that tells us is that something is still
wrong with this bike. I really thought we had
it figured out with our Memphis testing session
but now I believe that there are more problems
here than we thought." --
Treble after winding up 12th in qualifying
"We definitely had some gremlins today." --
Antron Brown on qualifying in the 10th position
"It's been a while since Antron and I
had this kind of qualifying effort, but I'm
extremely confident we will be much better
on race day. It's all about how you do on Sunday
that counts." --
Angelle Savoie, Brown’s teammate, on
her own 8th-place qualifying effort
"Our tune-up was based off our qualifying
runs, and we now know that by fixing an ignition
problem Saturday night, the bike wanted more
fuel than we were giving it on Sunday." --
Treble after his opening-round loss to Matt
Smith
"We're still in it, mathematically, but
Andrew would have to have a horrible weekend
in Pomona and we would have to gain the maximum
number of points, including setting a national
elapsed time record. That being said, we'll
show up there and give it our best shot like
we always do. You never know what can happen."
-- Brown after losing
to Ellis in round two, referring to his chase
of Andrew Hines for the 2004 championship
“At the eighth-mile I was ahead of him.
At the top end we didn’t have the right
tune-up and he pulled along side me. When we
crossed the finish line I looked up for my
win light and couldn’t believe it didn’t
come on. It’s a weird feeling.” --
Scali on his very narrow loss to Shawn Gann
in the second round
“I can drive myself crazy when I lose
a race that close. If I would have cut an .027
instead of an .028 we could have won. If the
engine would have revved just 100 rpm higher
we could have won. It takes a little longer
to get over than a normal loss. You just have
to try your best to forget it and move on.” --
Scali again, after Gann’s .014 reaction
spelled the difference
“I think I had a slight edge just past
half track, but then he drove around me." --
Savoie on losing her holeshot advantage over
Ellis in the final round
"The bike won that race." --

and the first for the G-Squared team
