Harris showed that there is indeed a "new sheriff in town" by throwing a series of fives at the rest of the field, while also setting the Top Speed and Low ET marks, and getting the win in the final over surprise finalist Sean Bellemeur. Harris's 5.903/252.80 pass in the final was both the quickest and fastest by a Top Fuel car at the event.

The only task in Top Fuel cars that Harris didn't accomplish was winning the number one qualifier spot for the elite field. Jim Murphy's 5.937 lap got that honor for his team.

This Nightfire also offered the fans and racers a "B" main four-car elimination. That Top Fuel final round was an all-Chevy affair won by Lee Jennings. Jennings recorded a very respectable 6.18/228.94 to get the win over Terry Cox's Chevy-powered rail who ran a 6.258/241.09 "out the back door" pass in losing. If nothing else is worth the price of admission to this event, watching not one but two Top Fuel dragsters powered by Chevy wedge-headed engines on 98 percent nitro had to be. You won't see real Chevys on nitro anywhere else.

The other nitro class featured the Awful/Awful Fuel Altereds and that field  had 13 entries including "Altereds" that use a 125-inch wheelbased Funny Car chassis draped on an altered body. These cars are called "transformers" by the purists. There were also some of the 90-100 inch wheelbased ill-handling OG variety of fuel altered present.
