Brian Carpenter advanced through Outlaw 10.5 eliminations
after qualifying 12th with his Skinny Kid 2003 Mustang Cobra,
but was knocked off in the final round by number-two qualifier
Tim Lynch. The Forest Lake, MN-based racer runs a Steve Petty-built
392 with a single 106 mm turbo that’s backed up by a
Lenco/Bruno transmission. He won four of five Outlaw 10.5
races at Eddyville, IA, this year and campaigns part-time
in the NMCA’s Super Street class.
Jeff Fisher launched hard, but never could get his ’57
Chevy up to speed in Super Pro qualifying, running a best
of 9.718 seconds and finishing 61st of 62 entries.
After qualifying 27th with his 1980 Camaro, Jeff Shawver made
it to the semis in Outlaw 10.5, the farthest he’s ever
gone after attending all 13 World Street Nationals at Orlando
Speed World Dragway. Despite going red against eventual race
champion Lynch, Shawver, from nearby Ocala, FL, called his
experience “absolutely fantastic,” and added,
“To come here and play with these guys in this arena
is unbelievable. When you bring in guys from the Midwest,
and California, and Canada, and all the other guys from across
the United States, it makes this the greatest street racing
event in the world. And to go that far in this race, we can’t
be any happier.”
