THE CONTENDERS

Just as he did heading into last year’s final event, with 187 points North Carolina’s Terry Robbins sits on top of the Year One Outlaw 10.5 list. Coming off a win at the rain-shortened ORSCA event at Jackson, SC, and clearly the class of the field at ORSCA’s previous event at Atlanta Dragway, Robbins and his 2002 Camaro have to be considered the favorite to win it all at Huntsville.

Savannah, GA’s Craig Miller sits in second with his ’92 Camaro, just 20 points back of Robbins. His Fulton engine will be very fresh for the Huntsville tilt after suffering a nitrous explosion a few weeks back in an outlaw race at Phenix City, AL.

Third going into Huntsville is Floridian Joey Martin, 30 points back of Robbins, but still with an outside chance at taking the title.

Mike Hill, seven points behind Martin at 150, has come on strong lately, winning the ORSCA event in Atlanta along with a couple of outlaw shows. Hill, one of the most popular drivers on the circuit, also retains a mathematical shot at the championship, but probably would need to make record-setting passes at Huntsville, in addition to Robbins having an absolutely disastrous outing.
