During the last qualifying round at Atlanta, Robbins (near
lane) paired up against Steve Kirk to settle the rain-postponed
Outlaw 10.5 final from the previous ORSCA race at Huntsville
Dragway. Robbins won and also went on to win the Atlanta event,
while Kirk lost to Tim Lynch in the semis.
"Yeah,
this was a great way to end our year,” Robbins said
after riding a holeshot in his 2002 Camaro to the 10-wide
win over Tim Lynch on Sunday night. Earlier in the day he
beat Steve Kirk for Huntsville honors. “We’ll
all have to pick it up a bit over the winter, though, if we
want to keep up with Tim (Lynch),” he added.
Joining Robbins in the ORSCA winner’s circle were Keith
Szabo (Limited Street), Shane Stack (EZ Street), Roger McConnell
(5.30), Michael Strickland (6.0), and Keith May (7.0). ORSCA
backer Year One also staged a quarter-mile race for street-going
cars on Saturday with winners including Nick Yarber (Open),
Rob Roberts (10.0), Terry Dalton (11.0), Todd Baker (12.0),
and Lester Hawkins (13.0)
OUTLAW 10.5
Woodstock, GA’s Lynch reaffirmed he has the quickest
and fastest ride on 10.5Ws right now by qualifying his twin-turboed
’02 Mustang number one with a 4.476-second pass over
the eighth at 167.69 mph, then setting an outlaw ET record
of 4.466 at 168.47 in a first-round win over Dave Sheppard
(despite sanctioning the race, ORSCA doesn’t officially
recognize records set at non-points events).
With help from a crewmember, Tim Lynch

Lynch was a picture of consistency on raceday, running 4.40s
throughout eliminations and prompting crew chief and team
co-owner Steve Petty to quip, “We’re just going
bracket racing.”
