Goodguys held their first Vintage Racing
Association event in 1989 and embraced the legendary March
Meet in '94, adding a points series to the program. Based
upon the
reaction from many competitors and a bunch of
the fans, the fine-tuning of the Goodguys VRA Series in
2005 has matured like a fine whiskey.
Over 500 entries raced for three days at the famed Famoso
strip with rapid clean-ups from overstressed parts, good
communication between drivers and officials creating a well-run
show for the spectators.
This is the sophomore year for the inclusion of nitro Funny
Cars into the VRA show and the class continues to grow and
mature. With the torrential rains over the winter, most
of the flopper teams were unable to test their new stuff.
Ten funnies showed-up at Famoso.
Qualifying was led by Nostalgia
Funny Car charger Dan Horan Jr.'s solid 6.299 at 231.36
mph in his '66 Mustang for the 8-car field with a little
Saturday morning help from his former tuner Dale Pulde.

losing an engine. (James Drew photo)
Mike Adams held the second
slot with his newly painted Corvette from Prescott, AZ
with tuning help from the Malicoat Brothers and Richard
Snelling. Adams' City Choice Gift Card-sponsored flopper
ran a 6.393 at 217.39 in qualifying but put the rods out
of the motor in the second round unable to return for
the final. (James Drew photo)
