The
Nitrous Express Limited Street title at Huntsville went
to Terry Woodson of Dallas, GA. Woodson also set a class
E.T. record of 4.904 in qualifying his 1981 Camaro with
a three-stage 615 Fulton engine under the hood. He officially
backed it up with a 4.912 in his final-round win over Darren
Hoyle. "I had raced Darren a bunch of times in the
final, but this is the first time we beat him," Woodson
said.
Steve
Kirk was on hand with the same 2000 Camaro he campaigned
part-time in Outlaw 10.5 last season, but with a stunning
new paint job. He never did get a handle on the track,
though, running a best time of 4.99 in a losing cause against
Chris Ridge in the second round of eliminations.
Heath
Bell (near lane) earned the win over Shane Stack in the
TCI Automotive EZ Street final. Stack said because of the
quick turnaround after the semis, his battery wasn’t
fully charged for the final and his 1986 Monte Carlo "just
didn’t leave like it should" because there wasn’t
enough voltage to properly trigger the nitrous solenoid.
Even
before reaching the EZ Street final, Huntsville native
Shane Stack had a very eventful weekend, as a Heim joint
on his four-link broke on a launch Friday night, nearly
tearing the entire rear axle off the car. "If it was
under there on the back, it got broke," Stack said,
though he was able to fix it in an all-night thrash with
help from R&R Speed & Machine in Huntsville. Then,
during Saturday night qualifying, he experienced a huge,
bumper-dragging wheelstand that fortunately caused no significant
damage. "It’s been quite a weekend," he
concluded.
