2004 Goodguys Funny Car champ Randy
Walls and "Crazy Horse" Mustang Funny Car owner
George Doty laughed it up between rounds. Walls failed to
make the call for eliminations due to breakage in his '70
Nova, and has a new carbon fiber-bodied Nova on the way.
Doty mentioned there's a new candy apple red Paisano Funny
Car coming out, possibly at the next event.
Jeff Gaynor's '70 'Cuda sat waiting for the call on Sunday
morning after driver Jeff Utterback knocked timing cones
in Saturday's only funny car qualifying session. There were
enough funnies ready to make an 8-car field in eliminations,
however Goodguys decided to go with 6 floppers rather than
filling the ladder.
Round one found the Corvettes of
Godfrey & Close "Flamed Fortune" meeting Dennis
LaCharite's "Back in Black." LaCharite's 6.309
229.94 defeated Godfrey when he crossed the centerline.
