Despite leaving first in an all-Chevy
6.0 final, Bill Cowles (far lane) fell to Buddy Baggett,
who went 6.012 at 108.35 mph in his stylish Nova against
Cowles’ 6.028/113.11 combination.

ORSCA 7.0 champion Dennis Smith (near lane) broke out
with a 6.95 while Larry Miller went 7.001 at 93.50 mph
in his ’68 Camaro to take the 7.0 index win at Phenix
City. |
James Duncan brought his primered
Pro Mod out to make a few test laps one week prior to
the Dixie Pro Stocks race at Phenix City and ran a best
of 4.20 secs over the eighth-mile course.
