Jack Barfield and crew chief Randy Conner (in front of car) battled gremlins after qualifying 4th and the defending ORSCA Outlaw 10.5 champ went out in round two when he encountered traction trouble against Blackmon.

Number-six qualifier Rob Hale carried the front wheels to well past half-track on this pass before setting them down in two puffs of white smoke.

Josh McClelland redlighted away his chances in round one of eliminations against Jimmy Blackmon.

Florida’s Joey Martin qualified 10th and made it to the second round where he fell to eventual race winner Mike Hill.

Michael Robinson qualified his ’71 Camaro 11th on the Outlaw 10.5 list, but lost in the opening round to Hale.

Despite leaving first in an all-Chevy 6.0 final, Bill Cowles (far lane) fell to Buddy Baggett, who went 6.012 at 108.35 mph in his stylish Nova against Cowles’ 6.028/113.11 combination.

Number-two qualifier and defending ORSCA 7.0 champion Dennis Smith (near lane) broke out with a 6.95 while Larry Miller went 7.001 at 93.50 mph in his ’68 Camaro to take the 7.0 index win at Phenix City.

James Duncan brought his primered Pro Mod out to make a few test laps one week prior to the Dixie Pro Stocks race at Phenix City and ran a best of 4.20 secs over the eighth-mile course.

Also testing for the Dixie Pro Stocks race was Lynne Milner in her 1957 Chevy.
