Burton Auxier's
hot-and-cold 2006 season
got downright frigid in the Huntsville

When it's 99 degrees and the sun doesn't set until after 9:00 p.m., it must be summertime in Alabama. However, the brutal conditions at George Howard's Huntsville Dragway didn't deter great racing, some massive upsets and 58 entries during two days of action at the American Drag Racing League's fifth stop of the 2006 Flowmaster tour. While performances were stifled by the air, the diversity of the assembled contestants made up for the lack of world records seen at early-season ADRL events. Here, then, are a few of the machines which comprised "The Rest of the Story" at Huntsville.
Josh Hernandez's weekend started with a great 4.13/183 timed trial in the heat but late chutes nearly renamed the car Dr. Moon's Maize; only deft driving kept the '68 Camaro out of the cornfield at the end of Huntsville Dragway. After telling ESPN cameraman Steve Upshaw the car was fine, Moon and Hernandez returned with a 3.98/186.13 for Top Speed of the Meet!
