IT'S A FIRST FOR JANIS
Mike Janis dominated the Pro Mod field at VMP, qualifying number one
and setting low elapsed time (6.205/227.54) and then winning his first
event. His 1963 Corvette took on Roy Wasko and both Stott brothers before
defeating Ronnie Hood in the final.
"I can't explain what this feels like. It's a dream come true," the
44-year-old Lancaster, NY driver said. "It's taken me over ten years
of Pro Mod racing to become an overnight sensation."
'MANY PONIES' BACKERS HAVE MANY BUCKS
Paul Athey, driver of Johnny Rocca's '51 Merc "Ironhorse," posted his
best numbers at the IHRA event, but came up short of his goal. Athey
defeated former world champ Shannon Jenkins and Al Billes in the first
and second rounds, but was stopped by Ronnie Hood in the semis.
