"This was such a different racetrack than what we had here last month," explained Larry Dixon. "Then it seemed like you could fire off 4.50s at will, but this time it was like going to one of our summer races. With the sun on the racetrack the rubber wasn't as tight. After Darrell Russell ran the 4.60s yesterday, and was the only one who made it down the track, we realized those were the kind of numbers it would take to win today. LaHaie changed the tuneup around on our Miller Lite/Chevy dragster and got the job done."

This race marked Dixon's first win of the year and the second time this season he'd raced in a final round. He was runner up to Mike Dunn last month at Houston. The victory moves Dixon into second place in the Top Fuel standings just five points behind Dunn. - Jeff Romack

JEG MAKES IT 2 IN A ROW

In the final round of Pro Stock, Jeg Coughlin faced Mark Osborne, who he faced in his first NHRA professional final round in 1997 when he won his first race behind the wheel of a Pro Stock car in only his second start. Lane choice went to Coughlin and he took the right lane.

The starting line advantage went to the Jeg's machine by .032 seconds (.432 to .464). Jeg took off right down the middle of the groove to take the win light on a holeshot. Jeg ran a slower 6.935 at 199.40 for the win. The margin of victory at the stripe was .0251 seconds.

"Team Jeg's is back. I have always wanted to win the Mac Tools Gatornationals. We have a very strong relationship with Mac Tools and to win the Mac Tools Gatornationals is as good as it gets," stated Jeg. "We moved into second in the points and we have only just begun." - Woody Woodruff
