WE WANT TO JOIN THE TOUR

Bobby Lagana Jr. was the No. 6 qualifier, but went out in the first round.

THOMAS BACK IN CIRCLE
Many time IHRA Alky Funny Car World Champion Mark Thomas hasn't been heard from lately but he served notice that he might be ready to make a run at one more World Championship at Cordova. On his way to winning the event Thomas drove his alky flopper to he low ET and Top Speed of the meet with a 5.812/240.64 clocking in a semi-final win over the Tommy Anderson-tuned John Vouros car and then went on to beat another IHRA hitter Jimmy Rector in the final when Rector bulbed away his chances giving Thomas a win.

WILSON WINLESS AT CORDOVA

Gene Wilson has been terrorizing the IHRA Pro Stock ranks with his Jerry Haas-built Cougar. Wilson came to Cordova with three straight wins in IHRA competition and looked to be a lock for a fourth until clutch problems that plagued the team all weekend put them out in the final giving the win to Tom Lee. Wilson's win streak in a Cougar is probably the most consecutive wins for Mercury in Professional competition in drag racing history.
