This tire taken off Ray Price's Top Fuel Harley
clearly shows signs of deep chunking after just one trip down The
Rock's quarter mile. |
Suspicion regarding the root of the problem centered on Goodyear's
decision about a year ago to shift production of the tires from the
U.S. to Chile.
"There was no problem for 's definitely something wrong with these
tires," Mancuso stated. "They (Goodyear) say, 'No,' but what else could
it be? We're not running any faster; there's nothing wrong with the
track; and it's not as if we don't know what we're doing. These tires
are just no good, that's all."
FOREIGN INFLUENCE
Helping to put the international into IHRA at Rockingham was Kjella-Hakan
Mostrom, a Pro Mod racer from Sjalevad, Sweden. It was an international
effort in the pits, too, as Mostrom and mechanic Mats Olsson were joined
by New Englanders Ken Rebello and Mike Faucher of Quest Racing.
