After qualifying on top of the 16-car GM Performance
Parts Top Stock field, Faulkner, MD's Matt Morgan steered his 428-equipped
'69 Mustang to the win on Saturday night. Morgan went 10.020 at
129.93 mph in the final, to beat number-two qualifier Paul Mercure's
10.198/129.85 combo in his 1968 Camaro. |
TIRE TROUBLE
The Top Fuel Harley teams struggled with a severe tire wear problem
at Rockingham, with rear slicks lasting only one or two passes before
needing replacement. Class veterans Johnny Mancuso and Bill Furr said
the tires normally last up to 25 passes.
"They're not even broken in yet and we have to throw them away," number-one
qualifier Steve Stordeur added.
