Rob Atchison's Funny Car crew certainly got their mechanical practice in at VMP, as they switched blowers on the Pride Fighting Championships Firebird three times during qualifying. Atchison, from London, ON, put his 526 c.i. Chevy-powered flopper into 14th place on the ladder and was set to face off against defending IHRA F/C champion Mark Thomas when the rains came. After making a pass in just the first round of qualifying, Welland, ON's Larry Dobbs qualified his 2001 Corvette 10th in the Funny Car field. Dobbs, who ran the only five-second pass (5.990 at 231.48) straight off the trailer, decided it was safer (and cheaper!) to stand on his time and save the parts for raceday.

AND FINALLY ...

Shortly after Matt Morgan initiated this monster wheelstand in his Top Stock semi-final against Mike Adams on Saturday night, the Camaro came down a little crooked and bounced him into the right guardwall. Adams went on to face Monty Bogan, his GM Performance Parts teammate, in the final, but redlighted by just two-thousandths, handing Bogan his first Top Stock win.
