The REAL STREET championship was up for grabs
until the end. Chris Tuten (photo) and Bruce
Hemminger faced each other in the final round.
Hemminger was quicker at 9.78, but Tuten's holeshot
allowed his slower 9.82 to take the win and
the championship.
Rich Groh (photo) won the two previous TREMEC
PURE STREET races and used steadily improving
performances throughout eliminations to take
the final round win over defending champion
Gene Hindman.
Everyone expected Mike Washington to win his
seventh straight BFGOODRICH FACTORY STOCK race,
and, after qualifying No. 1, it looked like
a cinch. Then the unthinkable happened. Washington
had problems that made him miss a gear, and
Jamie Holten (photo) became the only other racer
to win in the class this year.
