Tim McAmis was the last car to run on Saturday
night and still wasn't qualified. He had to
get in the elite eight-car field to have a chance
to win the championship. He did, but he bumped
out Mitch Stott, ending the Radiac Abrasives
team's quest to duplicate Shannon Jenkins' 2002
sweep of both sanctioning bodies' World Championships
for Pro Mods.

Eliminations went according to form as the
quickest cars in qualifying prevailed with the
exception of Chip King who lost to Canadian
Rick Distefano (photo) in a '53 Corvette.
From the first round to the final it was apparent
that Von Smith was the class of the field. He
proved it by matching his qualifying effort
of 6.26 on the first two passes on Sunday and
then stepped up to a 6.24 in a final round win
over Texan Thomas Patterson. Patterson (below)
not only lost the race but the loss also cost
him the World Championship.
Danny Rowe will make his
last appearance in this Chevy, formerly campaigned
by Jim Oddy and Fred Hahn. Next year will see
him in an early model Mustang as he moves to
join Mike Ashley's team.
