ro Mod and UDRA Pro Stock veteran Doug Mills drove his Jerry Bickel-built '93 Thunderbird to a final round win over "Trickie" Rickie Smith at the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park.

Mills needed a bit of luck as Smith was almost a sure winner, but after climbing into a blower car for the first time on Dec. 5, Smith was greeted with a resounding blower explosion as soon as he stepped on the loud pedal.

Originally planned as an eight-car Outlaw Pro Mod field, the track expanded to two classes after 23 cars showed up. Although most of the cars were Top Sportsman, it still made for an exciting program.

PRO MOD A

The eight qualifiers for the A class were Smith, Steve Engel, Mills, Jack Nunez, Scotty Cannon, Jeff Ensslin, Darrell Beller and Phil Osborne.

Talk about a Snowbird, Mike Prockish towed his Tommy Mauney-built '63 Corvette all the way from Anchorage, Alaska. The Alan Johnson-headed car had a less-than-legal blower, in keeping with the "outlaw" part of the program.

Rickie Smith was told that he would never get the car down the track, but his 6.275/229.12 blast gave him the No. 1 spot and Low E.T.
