Scotty Cannon was driving
Mike Ashley's Pro Mod Willys, but struggled
in qualifying, clocking a best of 7.104/209.93.
Cannon shook the tires and was out in the first
round, giving the win to Jack Nunez.
Steve Engel's BAE-powered
Corvette ran 6.62/213.82 for No. 2 qualifying
position, but shut off with an oil leak in the
first round.
In the first round, Smith ran a stunning 6.168/224.83
to take Osborne out of the competition. The
Prockish team had to change the rear after the
round and, although it wasn't the same ratio,
Smith ran a 6.256/225.96 in the second round
against a red-lighting Nunez. The purple Vette's
motor was apparently wounded, however, and when
Smith came to the line for the final round,
the engine was pumping out a little too much
oil for the starter's satisfaction, and he shut
Smith off.
Mills launched, shook, and then coasted down
the track for the last time in his 11-year-old
T-bird. Next year he will be driving an '04
Mustang.
PRO MOD B
Jerry Sweeney waded through the B class, qualifying
No. 1 in his stretched nose '02 Camaro at 7.296/187.03.
In the final, Mike Rahilly Sr.'s '01 Pontiac
Grand Am (near lane) got a jump on Sweeney only
to lose at the finish line.
