The Sportsman crown went to Lancaster, OH's
Kevin Hicks after he drove his '71 Cuda around
the four-door '65 Plymouth of Lester Johnson.
Hicks, who has competed in all 11 of the Chrysler
Classics held so far at National Trail, said
this was the first time he'd ever finished in
the money. Ray Block drove a stock 2000 Neon
to a 17.85-secs win in the Neon Challenge over
Ray Donaldson, and Ron Hamby (below), the 1999
and defending Slant Six class champion, started
off this season with a final-round win over
Rodney Harggis. With just 225 cubes under the
hood of his '66 Dart, Hamby went 12.279 on a
12.27 dial, while Harggis broke out in his '62
Dodge Lancer.
BEST ENGINEERED
Dean Stevens won Chrysler Classic's Best Engineered
award with this Jerry Bickel-built 2003 Neon.
The South Bloomingville, OH-based dump truck
company owner runs an Indy Cylinder Head 655
c.i. Chrysler with a 100 hp shot of nitrous
in his Pro Stock-style ride. Stevens debuted
the car in April at a Mopar meet in Las Vegas
and so far has made a best pass of 7.20 seconds
at 140 mph.
GASSER MEMORIES
Chuck Finders had his Stone,
Woods & Cook replicar on display at the
Chrysler Classic to promote the upcoming
Gasser Magazine Nostalgia Reunion on June
6-8, at Thompson Drag Raceway in Thompson,
OH. Finders planned to make a half-track
exhibition pass on Sunday, but mechanical
troubles on the line sent him back to the
pits unfulfilled. |
