Dennis Bergyn was the
#3 door qualifier
In the semis, Keeling gained his second straight
DRO final round berth by taking out fellow Quad
Cities area racer and "arch" foe Don Speer.
Speer was out first, but his 6.86/192.38 try
could not hold off Keeling's charging 6.68/197.65
winner. These two teams have a lot of fun with
each other, on the track and in the pits. Keeling
and Speer have added a lot to the DRO Q-8 experience
the last two years, and we hope they will keep
on keeping' on at the World Series.
In the other semifinal race, Jamison upset
low qualifier Jim Prevo with a holeshot. His
.036 to .142 reaction time edge and 6.81/195.48
effort was just good enough to edge Prevo's
6.79/197.25 run.
For the money, Jamison got a gift, as Keeling
fouled away his chances.
Keeling has been the unofficial
DRO Hard Luck Guy the last two years, as he
lost fire and came up short against the staging
time limit in the 2002 DRO Q-8 final round,
against a car he should have beaten. This year,
he held a two-tenths edge over his final foe,
and went red. That had to hurt.
David
Jamison eased it through the final round at
7.77/136.11 for the win. The Jamison family
has been a big part of the World Series over
the years, as his father has raced in 49 out
of the 50 World Series events.
The Drag Racing Online Magazine Quick 8 race
has become a big part of the World Series of
Drag Racing, thanks in large part to the cooperation
and support of track operator Scott Gardner.
Many track operators are reluctant to try new
things, but Gardner never stops looking for
ways to improve on past events.
The staff at Drag Racing Online would like
to take this opportunity to thank the Gardner
family and the entire Cordova Dragway staff
for another successful, great DRO Quick 8!
