"I drove back from Memphis on Monday night,
arriving at the shop around 11:30. When the
transporter arrived shortly thereafter, I tore
our race engine down and did some work on the
heads, leaving the shop around 4:30. After a
few hours sleep, I was at Atlanta Dragway doing
some tire testing for Goodyear on Tuesday. It
all comes down to doing what it takes to succeed."
-- Warren Johnson before
qualifying third
"We were not shooting for the pole. We just
wanted get down the track clean and make sure
we qualified. I guess we over shot our goal."
-- Greg Anderson after earning his 10th number-one
qualifying spot with a 6.739 at 205.07 mph
"We felt we were safely in after the first
session, so we put this engine in, which has
a completely different power curve. Unfortunately,
we burned the clutch out of it on that last
run, otherwise it would have gone well over
205 and most certainly bettered the 6.77 we
ran in the early session. It definitely shows
potential." -- Kurt Johnson
after qualifying 12th
"Hey I'm just glad that I qualified." --
Mark Whisnant after losing to Anderson in the
opening round
"Definitely not the run I was looking for."
-- Gene Wilson on his first-round loss to Jim
Yates
"Losing stinks, but it really stinks when you
lose on a holeshot." --
Jason Line after Larry Morgan beat him by .006
in round one
"It seemed pretty loose. We sure didn't make
the run we wanted to out there."
-- Allen Johnson after Bruce Allen put him out
in the first round
"We burned the clutch out of it again. We had
done the same thing during our second qualifying
run, so we stacked it up this morning, putting
five grams and 40 pounds on it, which should
have made a significant difference, but it didn't,
so for the second round we

a more aggressive disc in it, and still there
was not a discernible change."
-- K. Johnson after losing to Jeg Coughlin Jr.
in round two
"Something happened between the blueprint and
the result on that run. According to the numbers,
I was late. I'm not quite sure what happened,
and even though some of our data doesn't quite
agree, it doesn't change the outcome, so we'll
take our medicine and move on." --
W. Johnson after losing to a holeshot by Bruce
Allen in round two
"I couldn't be more pleased with how this team
has run. We have the horsepower and this new
Stratus is just an awesome, awesome race car."
-- Morgan after losing
to Anderson in the semis
"That is a heart breaking loss, but I did it
to myself. It makes me sick to think that I
had him covered and gave it away on the starting
line." -- Anderson on
his .001 redlight start in the final round against
Coughlin Jr.
"I was pretty busy trying to get my ride back
into the center of the groove in the final round
and didn't see the win light right away. I had
my hands full behind the wheel, we were on the
aggressive side in the final." --
