At Memphis, Shannon Jenkins, who qualified
fourth and was the quickest of the nitrous crowd
at 6.250, ran laps of 6.276/222, 6.247/222 and
6.260/221 in winning the event. Number one qualifier
McAmis once again went out in the first round,
losing on a hole-shot to Texas racer Thomas
Patterson. Patterson cut a .018 light to McAmis'
.067.
The very speedy Von Smith looked like he was
the car to beat. He qualified second with a
6.21 and ran consecutive 6.23 laps but in the
final against Jenkins, spun the tires off the
line and had to shut off.
With the win by Jenkins and the semi-final
loss by Mitch Stott, there is a virtual dead-heat
for the DRO/NMM Cup World Championship between
Mitch Stott and Fred Hahn with just 100 points
(or one round) separating the two competitors
with two races left in the series. Tim McAmis
in third place could easily overtake those two.
The remaining races include the Dallas event
where the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Shootout
will happen and the season finale at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway.
