HERBERT HAPPY WITH TEST
Doug Herbert and his Snap-on Racing team weren't
the quickest or the fastest, but they were making
progress. Herbert, crew chief Ron Douglas and
tuning consultant Jim Brissette had some massaging
to do on the combination.
"I shut off early on my first two runs and
we ran 4.64 and 4.62 seconds at 292 and 301
mph," Herbert said. "We didn't break any parts
and the computer numbers indicated we were going
to run a high 4.50 each time. On our last run,
we loaded it up, trying to run a low 4.50, but
we smoked the tires." (Photo

DIXON STILL ON A ROLL
Defending Top Fuel champ Larry Dixon is starting
off where he left off last year. On Saturday,
he turned the best time of the three-day test
session with a 4.558 at 322.73, despite shutting
off the engine.
"Dick LaHaie has a game plan of things that
he is going to try before the season opener,"
said Dixon. "We're further ahead now than we
were last year. So far, so good, but there is
still a lot to learn." (Photo

SCHUMACHER WORKING TO POMONA
Top Fuel driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher
and new crew chief, Wes Cerny, had their first
opportunity to work together at Phoenix.
"As expected, the chemistry was there right
from the start," Schumacher said.
The duo produced a best run of 4.560/316.82
for the U.S. Army-backed dragster, which will
move on to the next test session in Tucson.
"This will be a final opportunity to see what
we've got for the rest of the top fuel field,"
said Schumacher. (Photo
