BEHIND THE SCENES
Some of the unseen people who really help to
get out the news for journalists and the racing
fans come from people like Darryl Jackman who
posts the run-by-run results on Drag Race Central
and NHRA. Because of problems in the timing
tower, Jackman sat between the Firebird track
announcers and the timing system computer screen
to provide accurate numbers for the records.
Darryl also became the troubleshooter for phone
system problems running rampant in the tower.

ANXIOUSLY AWAITING CANNON
Pro Mod driver Rick DiStefano said he is excited
for former Funny Car competitor Scotty Cannon's
return to the class in which he won IHRA championships.
"I can't wait! I only got to race him once,
in Nebraska, and he kicked my ass. Let's face
it. He'd be my picture on the wall, my motivator:
This is the guy I want to beat. This is the
guy I want to race. He takes his [racing] seriously.
Now, you throw money into the equation and you
have a volatile situation. He loves to race,
he's good at it and he's one of the hardest
workers out there. He's one of the first ones
there and one of the last to leave, and that's
a bad combination. We're not normally lucky,
so we're going to have to be better. And I'm
hoping we can be." -SW
PRO MOD TESTS, TOO

Kip DuPuis from Los Gatos, CA was sorting
out his combination for IHRA Hooters Pro
Mod Competition in his unique '57 Buick
replica. DuPuis will make the season opening
Amalie Oil Texas Nationals at San Antonio
and at least three other IHRA meets as
well as running the West Coast Pro Mod
Association schedule. -DH

AND A SPORT COMPACT

Sport Compact charger Stephan Papadakis
is making lots of horsepower with his
AEM/DriverFX.com Rear Wheel Drive Honda
Civic, but was been having trouble getting
it to the ground. After a couple of sideways
runs at Firebird, Papadakis got loose
on Sunday and bounced from one guardrail
to the other, wrecking the car. Stephan
vowed to be back for the season-opening
California NHRA Sport Compact Nationals
race at California Dragway March 13-14.-DH
