Most disappointed perhaps was London, ON's Rob Atchison after damaging the engine of his Pride Fighting Championships Camaro in the morning time trial and being unable to get the only Chevy-powered flopper in the class ready in time for the start of eliminations.

Meanwhile, Larry Dobbs, another Funny Car racer from just down the highway at Welland, ON, skipped the time trial and made his first-round call to face Monty Todd. Dobbs, however, was likely more angry than disappointed after he left with a .333 redlight start in his Sportz Truck Tents Corvette and wasted a 6.143 at 214.76 mph pass, while Todd went 6.460 at 225.71 mph.

Only Al Billes was successful as he made it all the way to his third Pro Mod final of the season and extended his Hooters IHRA Drag Racing points lead to 89 points over Mike Janis.

"Sure, we'd always like to win," the Barrie, ON-based racer said after dropping the final to longtime rival Fred Hahn, "but we're leaving with our lead intact, the car's still in one piece, and everybody's happy. We can be satisfied with that for now."

Al Billes (near lane, in his quarter-final match against Thomas Patterson), made it all the way to the Virginia final after qualifying on the 16th-place step of the ladder.

In Virginia, Steve Stordeur made it two-in-a-row for Johnny Mancuso Racing, after the boss won at Cordova, IL, a couple of weeks earlier. Stordeur defeated Mark Cox, Mike Romine, and defending Nitro Harley class champion Doug Vancil to take the Virginia event title.
