The only on-track mishap of the day came in Pro Mod time trials when Troy Critchley's 1953 Corvette lost its right rear wheel and brushed the right guardwall before coming to a stop about halftrack. Critchley explained he encountered such severe tire shake that the center broke out of the rim, which released the wheel and sent him into the wall. Fortunately, the damage was limited to relatively minor suspension and body work, and Critchley was able to stage in round one against Steve Vick. Unfortunately, he lost.

AND FINALLY ...

Ricky Adkins (shown) beat C. Cullotto in the Annihilator Top Dragster final, with James Justice driving his bright red 1963 Corvette to the NOS Top Sportsman win. Special mention also has to go to Lunati Super Stock winner J.G. Wilson, who steered his 454-equipped '97 Firebird past Scott Stillings, Anthony Bertozzi, and Peter Biondo in the final three rounds.
