BRACKET RACERS SPEAK:

BOXES

The new rule is lousy and will only cost more money or make all of our equipment worthless.

Thanks,

BUMMER

Have to say it. I'm becoming a bit disappointed with the Dead-On column. It's basically my only reason for even visiting www.dragracingonline.com.

DRO is mostly about professional drag racing, which is fine. However, it isn't what I'm into. I'm into ET brackets.

Well, the last installment of Dead-On was in November. THAT installment was mostly about class legal racing (Stock/Super Stock). There was nothing in December. Now, in January, Dead-On is COMPLETELY about Stock/Super Stock racing. The newest rules, it appears. I'm bummed. How about some ET bracket content in a column called "Dead-On"? I really like reading opinions, etc. about current ET bracket trends, etc. With all the fuss about last year's Summit (bracket) World Championship, there wasn't enough available material to even offer an opinion on?! The current declining state of bracket participation doesn't rate a commentary, during the off season? No guessing about which direction local level brackets are heading?

As I say, I realize that the professional stuff is always gonna draw more attention from the unwashed masses, but how about reserving that one little sliver of commentary for truly grass roots stuff, once a month?

By the way, not that it's earth shattering news, but my local track has announced that it is dropping it's regular weekly bracket program for 2003. It's Brewer's Speedway, located in Sharpsburg, NC. Might be able to get an interesting comment from them on why they have decided to move away from brackets as their weekly bread and butter. I'd be interested in knowing what many small local track owners feel about the future of brackets.

Take care.

Jok Nicholson didn't write a column during the month of December because he was spending as much time as possible with his mother, who succumbed to cancer in early January. -Editor

GATHERING DATA

Jok: Way to tell it. Everything you said is right on!! I hope NHRA and IHRA pay attention. I guess data recorders are ok. You only need $2000.00 -- what a deal!!
