IF LITTLE GUYS PAY TO GET IN, BIG GUYS SHOULD TOO

Regarding the opinion expressed by Ian Tocher concerning IHRA T/F, he makes some very well taken points. The modifying of the rules to those of the NHRA was a good idea indeed. However, I must take issue with one point. Everyone harps on the fact that IHRA charges entry for fuel cars, however, I think this is correct.

If a low budget Super Stock racer is required to pay entry, so should a low budget fuel car. Even a low budget fuel racer has a single event budget that exceeds the entire year budget of most Stock/SS racers, so someone crying that a $500 entry will keep him from competing is ludicrous and insulting. Keep in mind that, in IHRA, the fuel racer keeps his entire proceeds from the sale of tee shirts and collectibles, where in NHRA the association regulates and keeps some for themselves, and you have the potential for the team to make back their entry fee and then some. Plus, they get the bulk of the payout, and the bulk of the ink, and rightfully so. However, they do not "sacrifice" to run an IHRA event.

There is more to the sport than fuel racing.

A ROMINE FAN

I really enjoyed the new interview with Paul Romine, he had thoughtful answers to hard questions. I will be pulling for him when we have the NHRA tour visit in Phoenix. He'll be doing well in the NHRA if he's half as smart with the tuneup on the Montana Express.
