LIKES LED
I was really surprised at the
reaction times of the fuel cars at Pomona,(eg.:
Millican with an .029) and can definitely
envision more red lights. I really like the
idea of the instant green - why not do it
for all the classes?

GIVE LED A
CHANCE
Just read (Jok Nicholson's)
column on the new LED's. Good story. I have
a few thoughts on the subject. Here goes.

I
have been racing over thirty years. In all
of those thirty years I have spent a tone
of time and money trying to make my cars quicker,
faster and now react quicker. For all of the
different chassis adjustments, shocks torque
converters and such that I have tried, most
of them did not work. In fact they made things
worse. My point is, for every ten changes
you try maybe only one will net you a positive
result. With that in mind, it should not be
to tough to detune a chassis or engine/trans
combo to deal with the new LED starting line
system. I'm sure after all of the crying stops,
that the racers will adapt. Some quicker than
others, but they will adapt.
What I see happening is that
the playing field will be a little bit more
level. We can leave like DA and A. The old
guys like myself will bring a little more
to the starting line. Look it the new winner
of S/G. Brad Pierce is a fresh new face in
the winners circle. And I think that is a
good thing!
Thanks for your time.

ANOTHER LED
FAN
I race a 1971 Monte Carlo in
the NHRA Super Stock class. Here is some feedback
on the LED Tree. I loved it.

We
always seem to have one round of eliminations
early in the morning then the next late in
the evening. At Pomona we had our first round
at 9:30 AM and round two at 6:59 PM. The LED
tree is more consistent to your eye. It is
either on or off. As you know your eye acts
differently when viewing the incandescent
bulbs during daylight and at night. I did
not seem to have this problem with the LED
tree. Granted this was the first time I have
raced with the LED tree but I think it is
a better way to go.
One other nice thing was it
brings everyone back to a level playing field.
Personally I think they should change the
spacing on the last bulb from .450 to .550
or anywhere in between at each event. So at
Phoenix they could change it to .480 just
to keep people honest. This would really see
who is a good driver and who is not.
