SPREAD AROUND THE MONEY
Burk, if you want 8-car fields, don't watch first round.
Rather than boo-hoo the 16 or 18 cars running for the fields
now, how about putting in your column what happened to the
Kenny Bernstein-run PRO that did NOTHING to raise purses
that may have helped bring in more teams to try and qualify
at national events.

Raising the first round money and the alternate money is
what is needed. Leave the win money alone, due to the chances
of a low buck team winning it being remote at best. Hey,
possibly they could take the current purse and average it
out for each qualifier, since the teams are basically running
for a trophy anyway. At a $40,000 to win race the qualifying
money would be $13,000.00.
Pitiful isn't it?

DIVIDED BY IHRA
Jok, I couldn't agree with you more about IHRA joining Div
5 and 3. I may not have raced last year (money reasons)
but I have been looking for a new car and I am rethinking
about buying another 8.90 car. It is very hard to justify
driving ALL that way for a race for that amount of money.
I may as well fix up my '55 Chevy and race at Byron and
Union Grove. I sure will save a lot on money.
One good thing for sure is that small clubs like Midwest
Super Comp still offer good racing and decent payouts. Two
races on a weekend and two payouts! I hope that some people
will find their way to such groups that are formed with
people that JUST WANT TO RACE!
I enjoy your articles...Happy Holidays!

THE STARS OF TOMORROW?
Your last one about where the next generation of fuel teams
is going to come from is something I have said for the last
two years. Look at the fuel fields -- there is only a small
group of teams that are "new." The rest are the
guys that have been doing it for a long time. I predict
that in 10-15 years, maybe sooner, that fuel fields will
be eight cars or less and maybe even non-existent. Even
Don Schumacher will run out of money eventually. Which begs
the question, what is going to replace them? That's a whole
other scenario though.
Thank you.
