FILL IN THE BLANKS

Racers soon may be subjected to purchasing an ignition with traction control detecting software installed because it is undetectable by the sanctioning bodies who don't want to mandate increasing the racers budgets just to compete with cheaters, is what I got out of your article. If the sanctioning bodies are even thinking of mandating this, (causing the cost to compete to start its upward climb again), why not just allow traction control devices (causing the cost to compete to start its upward climb again) and let the racers spend their money to make their cars (better, more competitive, more consistent...you supply the adjective here) and put a high quality show that has two cars racing to the end of the track for the paying attendees.

One way of increasing the racing costs is short term thinking trying to keep state of the art electronics at bay, while the other option is turn the technology loose and allow drag racing to potentially appeal to a larger audience.

Who knows the answer, not me, but...I would prefer to spend my money making my car more (your adjective here) rather than spending it on detection software that has nothing to detect in my car.

Thanks.

Chris: How do you remember all this sh*t? I just finished your great funny car story. I too grew up at Lions and witnessed many incredible funny car shows in '65-66 but can't remember squat. I have no clue who won but I sure remember the

cars/drivers. It was great to have seen the evolution of the cars. Guys who you have seen for years like Sturm, Proffit, Tyree, Landy et al move from stockers and gassers to the fuel ranks. A couple of cars that really impressed me were the Richard Schroder's "Bad Bossa Nova and the newly arrived (out of Canada) "Canuk" of Dale Armstrong. Schroder's car was SOOO beautiful with the emerald green paint by Molly. And nothing sounded quite like Armstrong's blown small block...I can hear that thing today. He would always start the motor back under the crossover bridge and it sounded like it was coming out of hell. The East vs. West shows were the best...lotsa cars...kept CJ busy on that scooter.

Don't go anymore, NHRA has lost the way and the Goodguys don't live up to their name.

Chris, write another book. You are the best.
