IHRA NEEDS MORE NITRO CLASSES
Jeff, you're correct. The perception IS that the IHRA is
the "minor leagues" of drag racing. I've been
attending NHRA meets in Dallas and Houston since the early
1990's. So when the IHRA had a meet here a few years ago,
I jumped at the chance to attend. Well, I've been to that
event twice, and I must say I was not impressed. Only 8
Top Fuel dragsters and NO Top Fuel Funny cars. Sure, the
Pro Mods were a nice touch. But, I'd never even heard of
the category until I went to the meet in San Antonio. Plus,
you don't see Clay Millican dominating the NHRA the way
he did/does the IHRA.
I'm a casual race fan that really enjoys Drag Racing. At
this time, I'm still more apt to spend my money in Dallas
or Houston. I go racing to "Smell the Nitro" and
it's just not the same at an IHRA event.
Hopefully, the day will come when the IHRA has just as
many Nitro cars as the NHRA. I sure would rather support
our local track. I'm one race fan would be willing to pay
more for my ticket if the event in SA had 32 Nitro cars
instead of 8.
Here's hoping your voice is heard by the IHRA.
Sincerely,

LARGER PURSES MEANS LARGER FIELDS?
Having worked with a couple of nitro F/C teams, I think
that IHRA could easily fill a card if the purses make it
slightly profitable for minor team owners to compete, especially
on top of current NHRA weekends.
Good luck.

WHY NOT ALTEREDS?
I love your "piece" on the possibility of the
fuel funny cars returning to IHRA but if that is not the
answer how about a Nitro Altered class? There are many Altered
teams looking for a chance to showcase their "rides"
and I feel IHRA could really benefit from having an unusual
class like this.
As you stated in your article, IHRA took up the Pro Mods
to the next step and was very successful. I can say without
a doubt Canadian fans would "Eat It Up." Whata
Think?

A NEWS FLASH
Dateline: Las Vegas, 10/21/05
Several thousand race fans got really screwed by NHRA today...Las
Vegas fans live and love… Friday night (yeah, night)
NHRA in all their Phucked-up thinking, lead by "Incompetant"
Tom Compton started Friday night qualifying at 4:30 pm.
So,(hey, aren't
we sooooo lucky) got to see maybe four sets of fuel cars
run, after dark. Nice work, Tom.

IHRA NEEDS TO ADDRESS SPORTSMAN
ISSUES
I have just finished ready your article titled "Nitro
Funny Cars Returning to IHRA?" As a long time supporter
of the IHRA competing in their sportsman ranks, I believe
IHRA has settled for a roll in mediocrity. IHRA, for now,
has good racing facilities that would be a perfect fit for
the Floppers.
However, I believe that IHRA needs more experienced people
to push the envelope. Yes, the Bader family know how to
promote and put on a great show and make money doing it.
However, I have been informed by IHRA leadership "this
is a business." All I can think about is "Well
duh," are you in the business of promoting a good product
and making money for the business or are you satisfied with
just having a "World Headquarters and a sign?"
Jeff, what I am saying to you is the same subject matter
that I have said to the IHRA leadership for the past few
years. IHRA is having trouble right now with trying to resolve
the displacement of their loyal sportsman supporters by
doing away with Division 5. That wound is still open and
has not been treated. Although IHRA puts on great shows
and good divisional races, until the association focuses
on healing wounds and restoring its credibility, as much
as I hate to say it, they will remain a minor league association.
I enjoy reading your articles. Take care!
