OF THIS AND THAT
Hi Jeff,
I have been an avid reader of Dragracingonline.com since
I first found your site, over 4 years ago.
I, too, am a Vietnam era veteran. I served in the U.S.
Navy from 1966 to 1970 as a linguist. If you are aware of
the USS Liberty and the USS Pueblo, then you know the type
of work I was doing.

Your statement about the "suits" who have NEVER
served our country should spend some time in the service
is right on the mark! It has bothered me to no end that
the current administration seemingly doesn't truly care
about those who are serving and those who have died in the
service of our country. The Secretary of Defense using a
machine to sign the letters of condolence to the families
is probably the lowest point he has reached.
On a racing note, your article on Buddy Ingersol made me
take some time to look back through my photos of earlier
years of drag racing. I found several shots of the Buick
V-6 twin turbo that I took at the 1987 Citrus Nationals.
If you would like me to send them on, I'd be happy to do
so.
I long for the old days of drag racing too! I'd really
like to see match racing again. I remember a day at Capital
Raceway in Maryland in the spring of 1970, just before I
was discharged from the Navy. There were 16 funny cars there.
Color Me Pink, Bobby Woods (?), Brutus, Jungle Jim, etc.
In closing, keep up the great work! I truly enjoy your
writing and the entire "magazine."

A KINDRED SPIRIT
Hey Jeff -- Great Xmas column, and good luck with your wish
list. I was a Vietnam era, Marine journalist (errrrrrrrr
yeah, they called it "Combat Correspondent").
Loved the job. . .just didn't really care for gettin' shot
at.
Oh, I owned a top fuel car, way back when, in the 70s,
so, I really love your on-line magazine. . .Brings back
the love of "Drag News" in me, lol. Having somebody
covering the sport I love, other than NHRA, is cool,
Merry Christmas to you and Your Great staff.

ON THE KAASE
Saw your article on Jon Kaase winning the '04 EMC with his
408 Cleveland. He also embarrassed the Bow Tie gentlemen
in '03 with his Big Block Cobra Jet. At the behest of IHRA
he also helped Sonny Leonard to copy his Ford Hemi into
a Fordolet. You Bow Tie fellows just hate to give credit
where credit is due.
You should tell the whole story. By not doing so you make
yourself look ill-informed. EMC will be tough for '05. At
509 CI the rules are written for a BBC. Let's see if they
can do it.
Regards.

Now that our interest has really been piqued, DRO Editor
Jeff Burk will cover the 2005 event in person.
