STILL FLOGGING WHIT
Well, let's talk some about Mr. Bazemore. Al Ritter wrote
a nice letter and I agree with him on most parts in reference
to how Whit is perceived by the fans. I can remember when
he was racing on his own nickel as an independent and still
had the same crappy attitude. He thinks because he does
what he does he's above everyone else, wouldn't give you
the time of day if you met him on the street. Now let's
get to his other (poster children) I had the pleasure to
sit with and meet Don Prudhomme. He sat with my wife and
I, drank a beer and talked to us just as a regular guy.
I can't tell you how much it meant to myself and my wife
that this man would take the time out (of) his schedule
to sit around and talk to the regular folks. I guess Don
tries to employ the same frame of mind people because at
any given national event you will Dick LaHaie cruising through
the pits in his golf cart admiring the sportsman cars in
the pits. He too will take the time to talk to you if given
the opportunity.
Again, Whit got (what) he deserved if not less. If that
would have been a sportsman racer that had done that we
would (be) sitting on the sidelines because we would have
been suspended and fined.
Thanks.

LIMIT REVS, LIMIT THRILLS?
The new rev limiter in the nitro classes is going to take
the thrill out of the sport. Many of us fans are very disappointed
this is inevitable. We feel now we have seen the best days
of drag racing, so anything past this date will not be worth
buying a ticket for. The fearless men embracing the danger
was the giggle the sport will miss. If NHRA wants to slow
the cars they should have done it when removing the downforce
would have set the limit. Thus making NHRA a driver's motorsport
with men pushing their skills to the limit of accidents,
however surviving due to lower speeds. Gobs of horsepower
overbearing the cars and drivers at speeds they can survive
is the way to limit these cars, not limiting the cars maintaining
the downforce allowing for boring runs with little chance
of anything but a straight ride down the track EVERY TIME
race after race.
I don't think the opportunity is lost to back 'em up eliminating
the down force and the rev limiter thus loosening up the
cars and maintaining the thrill factors. Yes, the record-breaking
days are over just like NASCAR, but let's not eliminate
the sideways factor so thrilling in NHRA. I was thrilled
to witness the record-breaking days of NHRA that are now
gone forever. Fans 20 years from now will (be) talking about
them with disappointment that they are gone forever and
didn't have the privilege of witnessing them.
Please pass this forward to anyone who might be able to
make a difference as to not eliminate the thrill of the
nitro classes.
Respectfully,
Douglas Stewart
PHOTOGRAPHIC MOPAR MEMORY
Why can't Gromer write a NEW article instead of re-hashing
an old column he wrote years ago in a Mopar magazine he
is the editor of? Gromer has done this in the Mopar magazine
too. . .re-hashed an editorial he originally wrote in CARS
magazine. If this is all Griff Clomer can do, get rid of
the column, I don't want to read something I read years
ago, word for word.
Thanks.
