RULES, RULES, RULES

Well to start, NASCAR should not call itself stock car racing. The cars are all alike. You can't tell what they are if you can't read the brand on the car. What BULL. There are too many rules. Whatever happened to "run what you brung." If you can't win with that, bring something else.

Pro Mod is the only true drag racing left AND it is being ruled to death.

Thanks.

COULD HE DO ANY WORSE?

Burk, just want to say that you are so right on the stuff you talk about. Keep up the good work. Maybe you should run NHRA?

HERE'S A SOLUTION

I fully agree with (Burk's) idea of having one big event a season to grab media attention in the way the Daytona/Indy 500s do. If NHRA wants to compete with NASCAR and the open wheel series for live TV coverage, they must modify their existing event schedules to accommodate the needs of a live TV feed. I would suggest that all non-professional classes be run to the semi-final round before Sunday (or Monday at Indy) so that there is no log-jam of eliminations or undue downtime between Pro categories.

There is a major difference in the circuit races that NHRA cannot overcome (their events are of a continuous format -- be it laps or distance) but this need not be insurmountable. Most NHRA races I have attended have been run in a most impressive way in terms of scheduling and logistics. I'm sure there could be great results with this format I am proposing also.

It may seem trite to say, but there are no problems, really, only solutions waiting to happen.

THANKS, MOM

Darr, I read your article twice, then sent it to my mother. I'm a vehicle technician in the army, and until her retirement three years ago, so was my sister. My mother always said physically men or women might be different, but inside the head they're all the same. My mother was the one to convince dad to let me go 300 miles away for a weekend to go drag racing when I was 14.She also convinced him to sign off letting my sister be a mechanic in the Army like her little brother. My mother was caught doing donuts in a parking lot after I showed her to use the park brake handle on ice in her brand new escort.

Yes it is very common to see females drag racing. A local girl Candy Mitton, runs Pro, S/Pro/ Street/ and snowmobile classes every second weekend here in the Miramichi. And yes, all at the same time! She has friends get her stuff ready each round. But is it mentioned she's female? No, she's just another hardcore drag racer who happens to be a woman.

Unfortunately, our "acceptance", if you can call it that, of women in drag racing has now sold us short in the media, compared to more "redneck" racing.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
