WHAT'S THE ANSWER?
What you say about the payout is right on (Send Lawyers,
Guns and Money). At our local track (Temple Academy) the
new owner Greg Duffield threw money at the racers for the
first year and lost money every weekend. Now a normal turnout
is 12-15 in electronics, and 20-25 in No E. We race for
80% of the entry money. I have noticed that every weekend
we have a core 6-8 racers and the rest are made up of different
people who seem to rotate in and out each weekend.
Money doesn't seem to be the answer and I haven't yet figured
out what is.
Thanks.

DRAW DOES GREAT WORK

It was so great to read the article by Tracy Winters - From
the DRAWing Board. I have been a member of DRAW for 19 years.
This is our 20th Anniversary. Even though we have been around
that long, there are still people who don't know what we
do for the injured drag racers and their family. It is more
than just money; it is emotional support too. Getting cards
when you are out of work can make you smile even when you
are hurting.
The volunteers for DRAW give so much. I know, as Area One
Coordinator for 13 years, I go to all the NHRA divisional
races and national races in Division One. There are also
an IHRA divisional and one IHRA national. Car shows and
VW events also get the message out there. We need the public
support. Division One sportsman racers and fans give so
much to DRAW because they know how much good we do.
Thanks for giving us time and space on your website.

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING OPERATION
INTERDEPENDENCE
Hello, Darr. I just read your story and I would like to
thank you for your effort. I am a big fan of things that
go fast, but I have a hard time getting any info on events.
This wouldn't be too bad if I was over seas, or had another
reason to not receive info, I'm in Maryland and I'm lucky
to get my mail. I'm in the Navy, at a squadron testing new
stuff and the like.
I want you to know that we thank people like you willing
to go through the hassle of the "red tape." Reading
stories like these make us feel proud to serve our country,
and you.

HAWTHORNE RESPONDS
Thanks for your email, Larry! I've become a big supporter
of Operation Interdependence as a result of that story.
The frustration of dealing with the USO made it clear to
me that they were in it for the promotion of the USO, not
what our troops needed. Thanks for reading Drag Racing Online!
