KEITH McCOY: McCoy is a regular with the National Muscle Car
Assn., and coming into the event was just two points out of third-place
in that circuit's standings. The 35-year-old's father, David, tunes
the car in his Galesburg, Ill., shop and the 23-year-old Pontiac has
coughed up a best of 7.78 at 177 mph. Wes DeWeese of RJ Race Cars has
been an invaluable asset in readying the car, a car that's biggest win
is a double payout $3,000 first prize at an NMCA points event at Great
Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisc. The Trans Am is powered by a 461-cid,
Lizard Competition Engines-prepared Donovan.
DAVID KEELING: The Bettendorf, Iowa driver sits in a 260-inch
long Chassis Concepts dragster with a 588-cid, blown and injected Rodeck
behind him. The 18-year veteran of the sport has run IHRA's Top Dragster
nationals, claiming a number of wins. Keeling's best run is a 6.50/205.
DON SPEER: Speer is a chassis builder by trade, so it's not
surprising that this Davenport, Iowa resident is driving one of his
own cars. This blown and injected Chevy-powered piece is just one of
many cars and bikes that Speer has driven in his 29-year career. Just
how well has he done? Leaving aside the pro categories, Speer has won
every category contested at the Cordova World Series. He also was the
1985 NHRA Division 3 champion in Pro Bike.
