TIM STEVENS: One of the cleanest and slickest cars in the Quick 8 show was Tim Stevens' Dorr, Michigan-based dragster. The 285-inch blue and flamed dragster was built by Stevens in his Straight Line Designs shop and sports a blown and injected, 509-cid Arias for motivation. Stevens has won numerous Super Chevy races as well as three IHRA National events in Top Dragster. Stevens couldn't pin it down exactly, but said the car's best elapsed times have been in the 6.40s at 212 mph.

RICK VERKLER: Verkler is another Davenport, Iowa racer who does virtually all the work on his car, which in this case is a 2,620-lb., '88 Ford Thunderbird, powered by a 554-cid engine. Verkler's national event experience has pretty much orbited around IHRA Sportsman competition with very little emphasis on brackets. The FoMoCo entry sponsored by Mike's Body, Sexton Ford, and Chassis Concepts recently won the Cordova IHRA Divisional Top Sportsman title and has a best time of 7.52/185.

And our first alternate ...

ADRIAN DEERING: The Camanche, Iowa driver wheels his '91 Spitzer dragster under the banner of A&A Racing and the Zippy Lube chain. The entry is kicked foreward by a 350-cid, small block Rodeck, drunk with power on alcohol, and fuel injected. Deering said he is not a trophy counter, but instead races just for the fun of it. "Fun of it" or not, Deering has a best 7.42/184 time slip to his credit.
