Here's another driver who made a reputation racing Chryslers, but who saw the light long enough to race a Mustang II at the U.S. Nationals. If you look closely at the rear quarter, the names Gapp and Roush are just visible. (DRO file photo)

Jack Roush wasn't the only NASCAR legend that took a trip down the quarter-mile. Here's a photo of Phil Bonner's Daddy Warbucks Falcon, which was built and prepped by NASCAR's Holman and Moody. This car competed in the late, lamented AFX class. This is a photo of the AHRA AFX final round from Lions Dragway in 1965! (photo by Tim Marshall)
Remember the Experimental Stock class? Here is a photo by DRO's Nostalgia Editor Tim Marshall of Kenny Vogt in an E/XS Comet from the early sixties.

Rickie Smith was the dominant Pro Stock racer in IHRA for many years winning six World Championships. Here his Oak Ridge Boys-backed car. (Photo by Whit Bazemore)

No photo essay would be complete without at least one shot of "Fast Eddie" Schartman. He drove many different Ford- powered slammers. This 429-powered Maverick ran a 9.63/142.85 on this lap. (Photo by Spectrum Professional Photography)
Sam Auxier terrorized the East Coast with his 'Cammer-powered Maverick. This shot was taken at what was then called Madison Township Raceway Park which we believe is now called Englishtown Raceway Park. (photo by Brian Marcal Studios)

Okay, gang, that concludes part one of this walk down memory lane for Ford racers. In a couple of weeks we'll dig into our dragster and funny car photo files and dig up some more Ford nostalgia.
