Tony,
Cara and Tony, Jr. Schumacher enjoy a quiet
moment at the U.S. Nationals. Cara is expecting
their second child, a son they will probably
name Daniel, any day now and is feeling and
looking more beautiful than ever. After hearing
someone tell Cara she will now have an Army
of two she lovingly jokes, "You mean an Army
of three," counting Tony. Speaking of the Schumacher
family, Don and Sara had a wonderful time while
vacationing in the South Pacific recently. Don
snorkeled with five-foot sharks, sting rays
and observed manta rays while enjoying their
tiki hut which had a glass bottom and only stood
six feet above the beautiful crystal-clear ocean.
They had a tremendous time at a Tahitian barbecue
and finished off the day by having his and her
massages. Winning the U.S. Nationals certainly
took the sting out of rejoining the daily grind
of running a top-notch race team. Don would
like to send his apologies for not including
a photo of his and Sara's trip but when he was
reached he was in an automobile en route to
the Pentagon -- a pretty good excuse if you
ask me.
Miracles
of all miracles, a photo of Sonnie Herbert with
her eyes open (Sonnie instinctively closes her
eyes when someone tries to take her photograph).
She is seen with Diane Williams, wife of injured
dragster pilot Billy Williams, while they visited
in the pits of the NHRA Nationals. Diane reports
that Billy is still in a coma but the physical
therapists work with him on a daily basis to
keep up his strength and she knows she can always
get a reaction out of him when she turns the
TV to some drag races. Billy loves to see the
Dragsters and Funny Cars, but falls asleep when
the Pro Stockers take center stage. (Once a
dragster driver, always a dragster driver).
Everyone's thoughts and prayers are with both
Billy and Diane in their ongoing struggle to
regain a bit of normalcy in their lives. For
anyone out there interested in winning a top
fuel car, don't forget to go to Doug Herbert's
web page www.dougherbert.com
and register. The Top Fuel car will be given
away "ready to run" to a lucky person at the
Las Vegas race.
For
all Ed "The Ace" McCullough fans out there who
are wondering what Ed, Linda and family will
do to fill their winter months it's almost a
sure bet they'll joins the throngs of skiing
enthusiasts on the numerous slopes across the
United States and participates in one of the
family's favorite sports. Linda, who is a wonderful
cook and homemaker, is also a very supportive
wife and everyone who knows and admires her
wishes her and Ed all the best for the future.
Since people with Ed's talent are few and far
between and are in huge demand on the racing
circuit, it's a given he'll be back wrenching
a top-notch fuel car for the 2004 racing season
-- if that's what he wants. His smiling face
is certainly missed at the race track.
