Check Out That Chassis

I am in the
early stages of a blown alky doorslammer Lincoln
Mark 8. It currently has indepent rear end and
I am looking to ladder bar a nine inch into it.
The car has no real frame rails to speak of that
run to the back of the car. My question is can
I put the cross member in for the front mount
of the ladder bars welding it to the rocker panels
and tying into the roll bar with it as well and
forgo any frame rails to the rear of the car?
I am going to run a 10.5 wide tire too.
Thanks.

Blown440,
Thanks for reading our column and for submitting a question.
At the very least, a blown alcohol engine will make upwards
of 1200 horsepower. This is much more power than your stock
unibody can handle, even with the changes you propose.
In addition, NHRA rules (25-1E) state that any car running
7.50's must have a complete chromoly tube chassis. Unfortunately,
I see no way around having a chromoly tube chassis built for
this car.
Thanks,
Jim Salemi
