To connect my new trailer to my motorhome I called my friend Alex at Truck & Trailer USA in West Palm Beach. Alex's store carries just about every accessory for pickup trucks and trailers, including trailer hitches. Since my friend Vic talked me out of mine in our trailer deal, I needed a new hitch set-up. Alex sent me a Reese weight-distributing hitch with the dual cam sway control attachment. The spring bars I received are rated at 1200lbs; enough to handle the trailer weight if I carry two cars. The dual cam arms attach to the spring bars, which ride on a cam bar attached to the trailer. This set-up really helps in controlling the trailer in windy conditions, and when being passed by the big trucks.

This new Haulmark Edge was a good looking trailer when I picked it up, but when I got it home, I installed six new Mickey Thompson aluminum trailer wheels. These one-piece wheels are made by Alcoa and are hot die forged, making them the strongest lightweight wheel on the market. They are made of a corrosion resistant 6061-T6 alloy and the nonporous surface will not leak. They also are nine pounds lighter than the steel wheels that the trailer came with and have a 3,000-lb load rating. The wheels come with a highly polished finish and really give the trailer a professional look.

Of course, I can recoup some of my investment in this new equipment because Mickey Thompson Tires pays contingency money at sanctioned events for using these wheels, as does Haulmark for buying one of their trailers. There is one catch though; I need to get to the final round again so I can collect all those contingency checks!
