Mike, I have a luv truck with a
350 roller mtr about 450 hp or so.
We just finished building the truck
and I put a th 350 in it from a
street car I had. When I made a
pass last weekend, it took a long
time to shift. In drive, it shifted
about 6500. When I tried to manual
shift at 6200, it waited until 7200
to shift. It doesn't slip at all
and the pan was fairly clean when
I changed the filter. I don't have
the vacuum or the passing gear cable
all hooked up, and I was told it
already had a shift kit. I will
be running brackets mostly and I
need to be consistent.
Thanks,
Reid

Reid,
If the trans is set up for street/strip, as
far as the shift kit setup, you need to hook
up passing gear cable and vacuum modulator.
The cable will make a difference at wide open
throttle and hooking up the manifold vacuum
will unload the pump at light throttle. You
might be better off with a manual valve body
or even a brake for good reaction times.
Thanks,
Mike

I have a question concerning the
amount of fluid that I should run
in my '49 Ford/Super Gas pickup.
I have a nine-inch Ford read. I
was told that running the recommended
manufacturer's fluid level was too
much for drag racing, however, since
I only believe about 1/3 of what
people tell me at the track, I figured
I'd check with the experts. J
Thanks in advance.

Bill, I think you are right, probably less
than 1/3 you should believe. All of my racecar
differential work is done by Tom's Differential
in Paramount, Calif. When Kenny at Tom's sets
up our differential, he has us put 2 _ quarts
of high grade differential oil for our 9".
So that's what the pro's do.
Thanks,
Mike
