Many of the Competition Eliminator cars feature small cubic inch, high-winding
engines in lightweight cars similar to what import racers would use.
Many of the racers in these classes have had a great deal of success
after switching over to a McClay lightweight turbo-200 recording better
speeds and elapsed times by just installing the trans and changing little
else.
|
Abe Loewen's Grand-Am set the SS/EM
record at 9.42/142.43 in 1999. |
The reasons are simple. McClay has completely re-engineered the turbo-200.
McClay has in some cases lightened and strengthened existing stock components,
and where he couldn't do that he has designed and made new ones. The
result is a three-speed OEM type automatic trans that weighs approximately
the same as an aftermarket 'glide except with an extra gear.
|
This is the "shorty" version of the
TH-200. McClay's trans can be ordered to accept either a PG, TH-400,
or TH-200 converter. He also offers the option of an input shaft
made of "Hy-tuff" material. Each McClay tranny has all of the stock
bearings replaced with Torrington bearings for reduced friction
and increased reliability. The tranny also is available in standard
length. |
