When the shop's owner saw our little problem, he assured me he'd fix it and said to come back the next morning.

Raleigh took the springs apart and ground each leaf individually, checking all of them to be 2.5 inches.  Saturday morning I arrived as we'd agreed, the work was done, the springs were freshly painted and the total was a very reasonable $50.

On the way back from the spring shop it was time for a stop by V.F. Sales in North Hollywood.  Mounting the new Dana 60 and fresh springs with the original 40-year old bolts was out of the question and at V.F. they've got just about any high-grade fastener and fitting in stainless, titanium, steel or aluminum you could possibly need for your project.

I had the old bolts for Vicente at V.F. to match and within a couple of minutes he handed me the Grade 8 replacement bolts, nuts and washers—another bargain at $15.
